ESN KAPA ATHENS and KINIMATOGRAFIKOS TOMEAS P.O.F.P.A*
coorganize again a Greek movie night. The movie to be screened this time is “Stella” (1955) by Mihalis Kakogiannis. “Stella” which is a retelling of “Carmen”, sparked great controversy, and although it was initially rejected by Greek critics, it is now considered one of the five greatest Greek films. Moreover, it was nominated for a Golden Palm in 1955 and won a Golden Globe in 1956.
As far as the plot is concerned
Stella (Melina Mercouris) is a young, wild woman who doesn't want to compromise and settle down. She is a restless, rebellious Greek woman who plays with men and enjoys her life as much as she can. But when she meets a young football player (Giorgos Foudas), things get mixed up. She loves him but she loves her freedom too and she will have to choose between the two. What will she choose and what will the cost of her choice be?
